Have you ever asked yourself what the benefits of SEO are? If you take a
look at the nitty gritty of digital marketing (i.e. SEO) then you will
find that it can have either tremendous benefits or be a tremendous
headache.
This is the problem that many small business owners and digital marketers face. How is it that some are successful while others are not? With the right tools you can figure out what's going to make you successful in the digital world. For a more in-depth look at great tools to use for cultivating your digital strategy
To start with the basics...
Link Building - Chances are you've probably heard this term being thrown around A LOT. This is the go-to idea behind SEO. Basically, link building is getting the URL for your website to show up on other websites. Why might this be important? The way Google caters its ranks (based from the original algorithm) is that the more links you have, the more people like your content and therefore it is worth looking at. This can be done through creating profiles with your URL in it, posting blog articles on forum or blog sites with your website URL, or through sharing your blog posts on social media with a link back to it. Make sure not to dive too deep into though because every page is also ranked with by a factor called Domain Authority which will tell you whether a site is worthy to post on or not.
Domain Authority- Domain Authority is a ranking from 0-100 that tells you whether a site has good or bad backlinks (i.e. how much quality content of theirs has been shared by other sites). This is one thing you want to pay attention to when starting out. This will let you know if you should try to link to other sites or not. If a page is a rank of 15 with thousands of backlinks, chances are that the content on their site being shared is nothing too good, so sharing content that links back to your site will only hurt your rankings.
Content- If you go to any SEO-based blog on the internet, no doubt you will hear about creating quality content. Why is this? This means creating original content that people have not read before. Not necessarily does it have to be entirely original, with billions of pages on the internet it's kind of hard to make something completely new but it can be something that brings a different (your) perception to a topic. This would be like the content on your site being that it is completely original to your company so it would be brand new. The idea behind content creation is to add something to the value of a user so that if the click on a link to your content it will add a positive interaction to their experience on browsing the web (i.e. they got exactly what it was they were looking for). This can be many things, such as, creating articles with tips for a certain activity based in your industry or explaining how something works.
There are many facets to creating a well-rounded SEO strategy and a simple Google search will help you find what you need. You will literally find thousands of articles on what you're looking for but the number one thing you will need to know is that it takes TIME to build your business up. Some links will take anywhere from 3-6 months before they're indexed by Google. The process can be incredibly frustrating but I promise you if you stick with it, it will be incredibly rewarding as well.
